Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death and funeral services Mr. Robert M. McGill, age 73 of Louisville, Georgia who died Friday, July 8, 2016 in the Jefferson Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday July 12, in the Louisville First Baptist Church with Rev. Scotty Hattaway officiating. Pallbearers will be Adam McNeely, Micah Mole, Michael Young, Brian Cofer, Chris Gordy, Matt Hodges & Steven Sheram. Honorary Pallbearers Russell Manning, William Hadden, Tommy New, Kester Williford, John Mole, Olin Cannon & Steve Meeks. Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Friday July 15, in the Willow hole Cemetery in North Zuich, TX.

Mr. McGill was a son of the late Robert Thomas McGill and Ola Faye Reding McGill. Robert grew up in North Zulch, TX and was a graduate of North Zulch High School, obtained an associate’s degree at Blinn Junior College in Brenham, and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX.  He started his teaching career in 1965 in Graceville, FL.  He taught at Louisville Academy from 1966-69 and Louisville High School from 1970-94.  He coached the national-winning Forestry team in 1991.  He organized the Jefferson County Young Farmer Chapter and became their advisor in 1994.  His chapter competed in 20 state Soil Judging Contests and 33 State Forestry Field Days.  His team qualified to go to state competition 33 out of 34 years.  Many of his former students are employed with major agricultural and forestry industries.  He was a member of the Louisville Lions Club for 34 years as well as a member of the Jefferson County Cattlemen’s Association and the Jefferson County Farm Bureau.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Louisville, where he served as a deacon.  He also served as Sunday School Superintendent for 12 years. He was inducted as a charter member of the Georgia Agriculture Education Hall of Fame in 2001, which is one of his most prized accomplishments.

He is survived by son & daughter in-law, Mitch & Kasey McGill, daughter & son in-law, Joanna & Henry Johnson, grandchildren, Kaden Robert McGill and Mailyn Grace McGill and Rachel Nicole Johnson all of Louisville, Aunt Pauline Kimney of North Nulch, TX.

The McGill family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday July 11, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jefferson County High School Young Farmers Association, attention Melissa Partridge, at 1157 Warrior Trail, Louisville GA 30434 in honor of Robert McGill.
