Because of the family’s concern for public health and safety during this pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed. (Wearing face masks is encouraged.)
Virginia was the oldest of six children born to the late Bettie Lamb Chalker and the late Lamar Chalker. Virginia being a special needs person lived at Grace Wood State School and Hospital for several years but was most content in a host home with Rev. James Bowen and his family whom we adopted as our family. She had been at Green Pointe Health & Rehabilitation almost 5 years. Virginia loved people and never met a stranger. In her own way she tried to speak to every person who came to visit at Green Point. Her death leaves a void that no one can fill, but her love leaves memories that no one can steal.
Virginia was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mary Lou Chalker & Dorothy Thigpen and an adopted sister and caregiver Stephanie Bowen, and is survived by 2 sisters, Betty Shelton of Wrens, and Jimmie Walden of Gibson, 1 brother, Walter Chalker of Millen. Her adopted family Rev. James Bowen, Brandon & Cameron Bowen and many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
The family would like to say a special Thank You to Green Point for their wonderful care and love that they showed Virginia over the past 5 years. You did a wonderful job of caring for her. A great big Thank You to Affinis Hospice for all their love and support of Virginia. We want you to know that you did a wonderful job.
The family will receive friends 4:00 till 8:00 PM Monday June 22, at the funeral home.
Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Care of Gibson is in charge of arrangements.
