Taylor Funeral Home of Gibson announces the death and funeral services for Mr. Henry Thomas Downs, age 86, of Edgehill Mitchell Road, Mitchell, Georgia who died Friday December 9, 2022, at his home.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday December 12, in the Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. T.F. Yawn and Rev. David Severance officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Zac Hilson, Jackson High, Parker High, Greg Johnson, Charles Logue and Brinson Logue.
A native of Mitchell, Thomas was the son of Horace Downs and Florence Kitchens Downs. For more than 45 years, Thomas was a truck driver. He worked with Smith Ford in Warrenton and Pulliam Lumber in Mitchell. He was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church for 50 years. Thomas loved to travel to Myrtle Beach. He also loved to watch Westerns. He was known for his great sense of humor and loved making others laugh. Thomas’ greatest past time was spending time with his family and enjoying being “Papa T.”
Mr. Downs was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Betty Downs Logue and is survived by his wife of 59 years Mrs. Carol Redfern Downs of the home, daughters & son in-laws, Alecia Hilson, (Don) of Mitchell, Melissa Downs-High, (Darrell), of Myrtle Beach, SC., 4 grandchildren, Zac Hilson of Mitchell, Mycala Hilson, of Afton, VA., Jackson High, of Myrtle Beach, Parker High, (Carissa) of Inman, SC., niece, Brenda Logue Floyd (Gary) of Cumming, Georgia and two nephews, Brinson Logue (Judy) of Mitchell, GA and Charles Logue (Mary Jo) of Gibson, GA and many lifelong friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday December 11, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
