Taylor Funeral Home of Gibson announces the death and funeral services of Mr. Donald Kent, age 90, of Gibson who died Monday morning September 18, 2023, at his home.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday September 22, in the Magnolia Baptist Church, with Rev. Andrew Duckworth officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Brookins, Tyler Cummings, Larry Kent, Dean Reese, Beaver Brown and John Dickerson.
A native of Gibson, Mr. Kent was a son of the late Olin Alva Kent & Loretta Davis Kent. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and a member of Phi Kappa Phi. Along with his father he was the Co-Owner of Kent Canning Company in Gibson from 1956 to 1984 and had served on the Housing Authority, Board of Directors of Oconee Fall Line Technical College. Mr. Kent served as Mayor of Gibson from 1992 until 2003 and was a Member and Deacon of Magnolia Baptist Church.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Alton Kent and is survived by beloved wife of 68 years Mrs. Sarah Mangum Kent, of Gibson, daughter & son in-law, Lucinda & Roy Brookins, of Beaufort, SC., son & daughter in-law, Mark Olin & Renda Kent of Gibson, grandchildren, Rebekkah Heidi Kent, of Gibson, David K. & Kathryn Brookins Columbia, SC., Katie B. & Tyler H. Cummings, of Macon, GA., great grand-son, Connor A. Brookins, of Columbia, SC., several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Kent family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
If so, desired the family has asked for memorial donations be made to Magnolia Baptist Church cemetery fund.
Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Care of Gibson is in charge of arrangements.
