Mr. William Alton Snider, Sr., age 90, of Highway 1 South, Louisville, died Sunday night February 6, 2011, in the Jefferson Hospital after a long, full life.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 9, 2011, in the Louisville United Methodist Church with Rev. David Boggs, Rev. Edward Salter, and Rev. David Hibberts officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Louisville city cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tom Armistead, William Stevens, Ott Stephens, Bob Walden, Grady Moye, Murray Hadden, and Stan Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Rocky Harris, Gary Hutchins, Pat Kelley, Joe Cox, Jr., Mitchell McGraw, Herschel Waits, and employees of Old Capital Motors.


A native of Grange, GA, Mr. Snider was a son of the late Willie Algrene Snider and Lizzie Frances Marsh Snider. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, had worked as a Greyhound bus driver, and was a retired Louisville auto dealer. He was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church, was an active Shriner, and a member of Stonewall Lodge #98 F&AM.

Mr. Snider was instrumental in the beginnings of the Louisville AA and the Bridges of Hope. He also appeared as an extra in two made-for-TV movies.


Mr. Snider was preceded in death by his parents, a brother James Snider, a wife, Charlotte Japolee (Jackie) Snider and is survived by his wife, Carolyn Kight Snider; son, William Alton (Bill) Snider, Jr.  and his wife Teresa; daughter, Kathy Snider, all of Louisville; two step-daughters, Karen (Ron) Claxton of Kite, and Kim (Keith) Jackson of Swainsboro; four grandchildren, Charlotte (Scott) Brady, William A. (Duke) Snider, III (Elizabeth),Taylor Seeloff, and Tucker Seeloff, all of Louisville; five step-grandchildren, Anna, Amanda, Cameron, Remington, and Ridleight; four great-grandchildren, Lauren, Lindsey, William (Bishop) IV, and Maggie; family friend, Oscar Lara; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
