Taylor Funeral Home of Gibson announces the death and funeral services of Mrs.
Sarah Mangum Kent, age 88, of Warren Street in Gibson. She died Friday evening,
February 2, 2024, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 8, in Magnolia
Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike Bell officiating. Burial will follow in the church
cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dean Reese, David Brookins, Tyler Cummings, Larry
Kent, Darrell Usry, and John Dickerson.
A native of Gainesville, GA, Sarah was one of six children of the late Lonnie H.
Mangum and Florence Fleming Mangum. She retired from the family business,
Kent Canning Company, in Gibson as a bookkeeper and previously worked for Pure Oil Company and as a substitute teacher. She also served on the Glascock County Board of Education. As a housewife, she took wonderful care of her family, who she loved dearly. A true Southern lady who supported her community, Sarah was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church in Gibson for the past 20 years.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 69 years France
Donald Kent, who died September 18, 2023; four brothers, Guy Mangum, Othor
Mangum, Horace Mangum, and Lonnie H. Mangum, Jr.; sister, Inez Ellison; and
her daughter in-law, Rendia Wells Kent. Sarah is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Lucinda & Roy Brookins, of Beaufort, SC; son, Mark Olin Kent of Gibson; grandchildren, Rebekkah Heidi Kent, of Gibson, David & Kathryn Brookins, of Columbia, SC, Katie & Tyler Cummings, of Macon, GA; great-grandson, Connor Brookins, of Columbia, SC; sister-in-law, Betty Faye Kent of Orem, UT; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many friends.
The family would like to especially thank Laverne Miles, Alice Moss, Loistine Baker, and the staff of Enhabit Hospice for all the love, care, and kindness shown to "Miss Sarah" in her final days.

The Kent family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at Magnolia Baptist
Church on Thursday.
