Robert was born December 21, 1938, Robert was a son of sharecropper John Robert Clements and Alma Allen Clements. Robert graduated from Wrens High School, class of 1956. He received letters in all sports available at WHS. He graduated from Southern Technical Institute with an Associate Civil Engineering Degree. While at STI, he was elected Senior Class President and made the Dean's List every quarter but one. Mr. Clements retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation Engineering after 35 years of dedicated service. His career included 18 years on Construction and the balance of Preconstruction. During this time, he served in very prominent roles that included writing a Georgia State Construction Manual and a Georgia State Specifications Book for the Construction of Roads and Bridges. His final assignment was Tennille District Construction Engineer over 28 counties. Upon his Ga DOT retirement in 1991, he was hired by the Augusta-Richmond County Public Works Engineering Department where he received honors that included Employee of the Month and Robert Clements Day in the 13 years he worked for Augusta-Richmond County. He started his own consulting firm, RLC & Associates, which he actively pursued for approximately 12 years. Robert was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. He loved gardening and, to a lesser degree, lawn/yard care. His idea of entertaining his wife, Sylvia, was taking her fishing, which she loved as much as he did, but during hunting season he took her to see all his deer stands and dove fields. Robert and Sylvia played a huge part in getting the American Cancer Society Relay for Life formed in Jefferson County, which rose to one of the top-rated per capita fundraising counties in the nation. Robert enjoyed many activities, but his greatest pastime was spending time with his family. He took up with the Ingles Coffee Club as a regular and thought he was president.
