Mr. James Ralph Kelley, age 88, of Mitchell died Thursday, October 2, 2025.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, October 5, 2025, in the Sheppard Memorial Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Don Black officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Zion Congregational Church Cemetery. Men proudly serving as pallbearers will be Chad Arrington, Jason Arrington, Jeremy Kelley, Anthony Kelley, Greg Kelley, and Billy Faglier.
Mr. Kelley, a native of the Grange community but had lived most of his life in Glascock County. He was a son of the late Clarence and Marie Kelley. Ralph served in the National Guard for one term and was an avid hunter. He especially enjoyed coon and squirrel hunting. His greatest passion however was hearing his dogs strike the trail and then a tree. He was also a devoted sports fan, cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs and faithfully following his favorite team, the Atlanta Braves - whether watching them play or listening to the games on the radio.
Mr. Kelley was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter: Joyce Meeker; and a brother: Roy Kelley and is survived by his wife: Hazel Reese Kelley of Mitchel; son: Chris (Ashley) Kelley of Mitchell; daughters: Terry (Steve) Arrington of Mitchell and Sherri McKinnon of Dunn, NC; brothers: Jimmy (Frances) Kelley and Jerry (Nickie) Kelley; sisters: Geneva Redfern and Eva Chalker; grandchildren: Chad Arrington, Jason (Ashley) Arrington, Kellie (Chris) Powell, Andrew (Meagan) McKinnon, Grace Kelley, Brooks Kelley, Athens Kelley, Adam Meeker; great-grandchildren: Ace Arrington, Tate McKinnon, Shep McKinnon, Ethan Powell, and Emily Powell.
The family will receive friends 2:00 – 3:00 pm prior to the service on Sunday.
