LOUISVILLE
Following a lengthy illness, the sweet, loving spirit of Pearl Virginia Hayes, 89, departed this life on March 28, at her home in Louisville, surrounded by her beloved family.
Service will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, at Taylor Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville, with the Rev. Franklin Sasser officiating; a private burial will be held after the service in the Louisville City Cemetery.
Born in Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, England, she was the daughter of the late George David and Madelene Ellen Whiterod Weatherall. Also preceding her in death were her five siblings: Joy W. Berntsen, Jane W. Humbley, Maureen W. Williams, Ted Weatherall, and Fred Weatherall, all of England.
After completing her primary and secondary education in England, she served her country as a member of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force, an arm of the British Royal Air Force. Following this assignment she married and emigrated from Great Britain with her family, living in Canada and Arkansas prior to making their home in Louisville in 1965; she later became a naturalized U. S. citizen.
In addition to enjoying her vocation as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, she also owned and operated a gift shop in Louisville prior to her retirement. A lover of all nature, she especially treasured the many dogs which she and her husband "parented" in their home through the years.
Her survivors include: her cherished husband of 65 years Roy Michael Hayes, her son Robert Michael "Bob" Hayes, her granddaughter Elizabeth Hayes Stafford, all of Louisville, and her grandson Michael "Sean" Hayes and his wife Julie, of Stapleton. Her great grandchildren, Haley Elizabeth Stafford, Cassidy Nicole Stafford and Zachary Hayes Stafford, all of Louisville, and Laura Faith Hayes and Ethan Michael Hayes, of Stapleton.
The family may be contacted at the home of Elizabeth Hayes Stafford, at 1137 Fairlane Drive in Louisville.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 1, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville is in charge of the arrangements.
