Taylor Funeral Home of Gibson announces the death and funeral services of Mr. Henry "Olin" Mathis, age 91, of Gibson, who died Wednesday afternoon, September 18, 2024, at his home.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm, Saturday, September 21, 2024, in the Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Harwell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Adams, Troy Bales, James Chalker, Michael Gilmer, Jake Hadden, Bob Hayes, and Scott Swint.  Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Masonic Lodge #257 F&AM.

Mr. Mathis was a native and lifelong resident of Gibson. He was the son of Henry O. Mathis and Ruth Hilson Mathis. At the age of 17 he volunteered for military service in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and served for four years, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was employed with Yancey Brothers Equipment Company for 40 years as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was a lifelong faithful member and deacon of Fellowship Baptist Church. For 65 years he was a member of the Gibson Masonic Lodge # 257 F&AM. Olin loved doing things for others and for his community. One of his greatest joys was hosting the annual kids fishing event for the local elementary school for 27 years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Olin was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, and a son, William Henry Mathis and is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Wilma Chalker Mathis of Gibson; daughter, LaVerne Booton of Gibson; grandson, Ian Booton of Grovetown; granddaughter Allyson Madden; sister, Frankie Mathis Hadden, of LaGrange and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends prior to the services from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the church on Saturday.
