Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death and services of Mrs. Mary Frances Lewis Pilcher, age 99, of Academy Drive Louisville, who died Wednesday morning December 16, 2020 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday December 19, 2020 for family only in the Louisville United Methodist Church. Graveside services open to the public and will be held 3:00 PM Saturday in the Louisville City Cemetery with Rev. Peter Vermeulen officiating. Pallbearers will be Briggs Cline, Woody Gayle, Charlie May, Crawford McInnis, Ford McInnis, Paul Pilcher, Robert Gunby, Rusty Woodward. Mrs. Pilcher was born September 12, 1921 in Louisville, the daughter of John Ransom Lewis, M.D., and Ethel Boone Lewis.

Mrs. Pilcher along with her husband James Wright Pilcher, M.D., saw a need for a hospital service in their own county. They personally constructed a 40 bed hospital for the people of Jefferson County, and operated it with Mrs. Pilcher serving as the administrator for many years. She was a homemaker and member of Louisville United Methodist Church, the John Franklin Wren Chapter DAR, Saint Philips Parish Chapter DAC, and the Louisville Garden Club.

Mrs. Pilcher was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Wright Pilcher, M.D., brother, John Ransom Lewis, Jr. M.D., and a grandson James Warren Baxter and is survived by: sons, James Wright Pilcher, Jr., M.D. (Grace, M.D.), John Judson Pilcher (Janet), and James McBride, (Charlotte), daughters, Mary Pilcher May (Charles, M.D.), Frances Pilcher Baxter (Don, M.D.), Elizabeth Pilcher Gunby (Bob, M.D.), Judith Pilcher Altman (Charles), 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren several nieces and nephews.

The family is very grateful to "Batmama's" special companions Charlotte McBride, Gail Boyd, and the staff of Pruitt Hospice.

There will be an open visitation 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
