Taylor Funeral Home of Gibson announces the death and funeral services of Mr. Lester Elbert Newsome, III, age 79 of Gibson who died Saturday morning July 13, 2024, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 17, 2024, in the Sheppard Memorial Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home Gibson with Rev. Mark Bowers officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors in the Gibson City Cemetery. Men honored to serve as pallbearers, Tyler Newsome, Ryan Newsome, Liam Newsome, Rowan Newsome, Barney Usry & James Davis.

Mr. Newsome was one of six children born to the late Lester Elbert Newsome, Jr., and Florence Gloria Calloway Newsome in Milledgeville, GA. He was a 1963 Graduate of Warren County High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Avera. Mr. Newsome retired from Imerys Kaolin Company as a Surveyor.

Les, was preceded in death by a grandson, William Joshua Newsome, and a sister, Cheryl Norris, and is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Linda K. Newsome, of Gibson, sons & daughters in-laws, Larry W. & Shellie Newsome of Gibson, Barry D. & Theresa Newsome, of Augusta, & David O. Newsome of Warrenton, special friend, Joe Dean Usry of Gibson, sisters, Sandra Azimi (Mehdi) of Gordon, and Cathe Basurto (Faustino) of Jewell, brothers, Phil Newsome, Eatonton, and Tony Newsome (Luz) of Jewell, 8 grandchildren Ashleigh Harbison (Kevin), Tyler Newsome (Danielle), Erin LaPier (Shawn), Ryan Newsome, Liam Newsome (Caroline), Rowan Newsome, Alanna Newsome, Connor Newsome, 3 great-grandchildren Sophie LaPier, Charlie LaPier, Paisley Newsome, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family may be contacted at the residence and will receive friends 10:00 till 11:00 Wednesday morning prior to the funeral services at the funeral home.
