Leroy Lewis, 93 of Louisville, GA, entered into rest on Monday, January 11, 2021. Graveside services will be held Friday, January 15, 2021 at 2 p.m. at the Louisville City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders of Louisville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Those in attendance are strongly encouraged to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Mr. Lewis was born November 7, 1927, to Herbert I. Lewis and Clara Chavous Lewis. He was a graduate of Wrens High School and a 1951 graduate of Georgia Tech with a degree in Industrial Management. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, stationed on Kwajalein in the Pacific for 2 years and Tokyo, Japan, for 2 years. After his discharge he worked in the family business, Lewis Steel Works in Wrens from 1955 to 1961.

He then worked for Burns Manufacturing in Louisville before moving to Thermo King Corporation in Louisville in the Administration of materials and production. In 1990 he retired and pursued an interest in Jefferson County history, founded the Jefferson County Historical Society and served as its first President. He was an Elder Emeritus of the Louisville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, an Emeritus member of Stonewall Lodge #98, receiving his 50-year pin and apron 3/20/2014, and an honored member and past President of the Louisville Kiwanis Club, receiving the Georgia R. Hixon Fellow award.

He had a special interest in genealogy and authored "Cemeteries of Jefferson County Georgia" which has proved an invaluable resource to finding ancestor information. Under Leroy's direction the Historical Society published "The Yazoo Land Fraud" by Helen Clark.

He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Jones Lewis, a son John H. Lewis and 7 siblings. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Kenneth J. Lewis (Melody) of McDonough GA, Charles S. Lewis (Susanne) of Louisville, daughter-in-law Karen Y. Lewis of Louisville, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to recognize and honor Leroy's devoted caregivers who made his life enjoyable and comfortable. His first and primary caregiver for 8 years was Annette Walden. As Leroy's needs increased Mary Ann Holmes, Beverly Dogan, Gail Boyd and LaTasha Thomas also served him and the family faithfully.
