Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death on Saturday, May 4, 2024, our beloved, Julia "Judy" Smith Lamb, made her sweet transition to her heavenly home. Judy was born on October 1, 1943, and spent her first 80 years spreading love, joy, sarcasm, and sass to any and all around her.
The memorial service will be held at Bethesda Primitive Baptist Church, 1241 Bethesda Road, Wadley, GA on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 12:00 noon with Elder Craig Lanier officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m., until the beginning of the service.
She was born in Jefferson County and grew up in Wadley. She was a dedicated and loving wife to her late husband E. B. Lamb III. They had many adventures together for 40 years before his passing in 2004. They could often be found at a horse show with their boys, dancing at McKinney's Pond, watching some sporting event for Tatum, Beau Brinson, or Dakota, or just being together at home. They were always a perfect match with E.B. being calm, cool, and collected to Judy's comical shenanigans. In addition to E.B., Judy was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Delle Smith, her sister Gloria Smith, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Frances Lamb and Enon Lamb, and her brother-in-law, Jimmy Bailey.
Judy was the Valedictorian of the Wadley High School Class of 1961. She had a quick wit about herself and could always find the ray of sunshine in any situation. She was a longtime member of Bethesda Primitive Baptist Church, and she loved her church family. Judy was a working mom who began working in banking in Athens while E.B. was in school, and she continued at the Bank of Wadley once they moved home. She also worked at Farmer's Gin & Storage and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. In her final years, the ravages of dementia progressed significantly, but she never lost her ability to quip a zinger or make you laugh when you didn't even know you needed to!
Judy is survived by her sassy big sister, Annette Bailey of Waynesboro. The two visited frequently and had a very special bond. In years past, Annette, Gloria, and Judy had many excursions beyond the local community. There is no doubt that there are still stories being told as far away as Hawaii about Clarence and Delle's three girls. Judy's favorite sister-in-law, Mary Pat, lives in Blue Ridge, GA, with her husband Bill Bragg. Judy is also survived by one brother-in-law, Wynder Smith of Wadley.
This memorial to Judy would not be complete without the mention of Mr. Jack Cooper. Our family is so very grateful to Mr. Jack for all the great company he and Judy enjoyed together. It must also be said that Mr. Jack was a brave soul as he would let Judy drive him to Augusta for doctor's appointments. However, he did confess that he turned off the "over the line" signal in the car when she drove, otherwise, it would go off the whole time she was driving!
You could always get a smile on Judy's face when you asked about her family. She was very proud of her boys and supported them in their every endeavor. She fully embraced being a boy mom, even before that was a thing. She never backed down from challenges that may have presented. Judy may have been petite in height, but she was a giant in unwavering love for her boys!
Among those who Judy leaves behind are her two beloved sons. The oldest Smitty, and his wife, SuzAnne, currently reside in Athens, GA. Judy was Googie to granddaughter Tatum and her husband Brice Wilson of Commerce, GA and grandson Beau Brinson Lamb and his fiancé Madi McCalvin, of Athens, GA. She was also great-grandmother to Braxton and Enon Wilson, and Iley Grace Lamb. Judy and E.B.'s youngest son, Tim, along with his companion, Sonya Gore, live in Louisville, GA. Judy was JuJu to Tim's son, Dakota Lamb of Wadley, and to Sonya's children, Allen, and Sarabeth Gore of Louisville.
There are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews that can tell stories that cannot be told here. In addition to being the fun aunt, she could also be their biggest supporter and fiercest defender if needed. Suffice it to say she could easily claim the title of favorite auntie.
And finally…friends. Judy was a friend to many, across generations and zip codes. Most likely, if Judy and her friends had grown up in the era of cell phones and social media, there is no doubt they would have gone viral.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the staff of Silver Linings Personal Care Home in Stapleton for their outstanding care of Judy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: Lamb's Chapel Cemetery Fund c/0 Gwen Stropoli 1684 C.B. Lamb Road Louisville, GA 30434 in memory of Judy Lamb.
