Mrs. Jewell S. "Judy" Tanner, age 90 of Forest Street Louisville, died Sunday, February 16, 2014 in the Georgia Regents Medical Center in Augusta.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, February 20th, in the Louisville United Methodist Church with Rev. David Hibberts and Rev. David Boggs officiating. Burial will follow in the Louisville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joseph Sheppard, Walt Martin, Ethan Tanner, Denny Barrow, Joe Sheppard and Mack Bailey. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Joe Gay Sunday School class.
Mrs. Tanner was a native of Stapleton. She was one of 7 children born to the late Fannie Walden Sheppard and Joseph Jefferson Sheppard. Judy was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church, the Joe Gay Sunday School Class, and the United Methodist Women. She had worked in several fields during her career but is most remembered for being Sheriff Zollie Compton's secretary for many years and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Tanner was preceded in death by her parents, husband Delmar R. Tanner, 3 brothers Harold Sheppard, Lamar Sheppard, Cleon Sheppard, 2 sisters Marie Williams and Helen Thomas, and is survived by daughter Diane E. & Michael Freda of Burke, VA, son Jeffrey & Carla Tanner of Athens, GA, brother J. F. "Tag" & Lois Sheppard of Louisville, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews.
The Tanner family may be contacted at the residence on Forest Drive in Louisville and will receive friends Thursday at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 PM service time.
