LOUISVILLE,
Mrs. Martha Joyce Odom Kelly, age 89 of J. Cross Road, died Monday, evening May 25, 2015 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Thursday, May 28, 2015 in the Louisville United Methodist Church with Dr. William Daniel and Mr. Dwain Little officiating. Burial will follow in the Louisville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aaron Murphy, Sean Murphy, Teddy Leverett, Austin Leverett, Mac Yeomans, Matt McGregor, Jonas Gamble, Billy Lamb, Pat Kelly and Benjie Kelly. Honorary Pallbearers will be The Barwick Sunday school Class, the Seekers Prayer and Bible Study Class, Rocky Gilmore, Dr. James Polhill, Tommy Jones and Walter Jones.
A native of Girard, Joyce was a daughter of the late Leoline Gladis Dixon Odom and Robert Randall Odom. She was a graduate of Waynesboro High School and Florida State College for women (now Florida State University) and Tulane School of Sociology in New Orleans. She was employed by Family and Children's Services in Marietta, GA, Union Camp Employment Office in Savannah, GA as well as a teacher in Wadley, GA. Joyce was a resident of Louisville, GA, where she spent most of her life supporting her husband in farming and other business endeavors. Joyce was a lifelong member of the Louisville United Methodist Church where she served on the council and leader in the Barwick Sunday School Class and Treasurer. She has been a member of the Seekers Prayer and Bible Study Group. Her church and church family were very dear to her heart. Joyce was a member of the Edmund Burke Chapter of D.A.R., life member of the Garden Club of Georgia. She served as President of the Louisville Garden Club and vice president of the Garden Club of Georgia, a pass flower show judge and Landscape Design Critic, pass member of the Creative Garden Club and the Ikebana International. She and her husband were avid Rosarians, and enjoyed sharing their roses with family and friends.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Jack Washington Kelly and is survived by her cousins Mary McGregor Yeomans, Jimmy Dixon, Betty Ann Pieczneki, Daryl Dixon, Joyce Ellen Dixon, Robert Dixon, Peggy Hasty, Pricilla Brinson, Millie Hudson, Margie Odom Dale, JoAnn Johnson, Johnnie Quarrels, Mac McNorrill, Maurice McGregor and Carol McGregor, and nephews: Jan Parker, Benjie Kelly III, and Pat Kelly.
The Kelly family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM in the church.
In lieu of flowers, if so desired, the family request memorials be made to the Glory to God Fund at Louisville United Methodist Church, 301 West 7th Street, Louisville, GA 30434.
Joyce's family would like to thank Jonas Gamble, a special friend who made it possible for her to carry on the farming and timber interest. A special thanks to Mattie Burton, her care taker, Charlotte McBride, Melissa Gamble, to Hospice, Jefferson County Hospital and to Jim Polhill, M.D. as well as her many friends and church family.
