Taylor Funeral Home of Gibson announces the death and funeral services of Mr. John William Dougherty, age 84 of Martinez who died Saturday, May 21, 2016 at his residence.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held 3:00 PM Monday, May 23, in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery in Gibson with Rev. Tommy Harwell officiating. Pallbearers will be: James Mowel, Chris Spargo, Chad Harmon, Ronda Kinner, Robert Kinner, II, Nicole Harmon and Deborah Spargo.

A native of Schenectady County, NY, Mr. Dougherty was the son of the late John Joseph Dougherty and Gladys May Britton Dougherty. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving in Korea. John worked for the Washington, DC government as an Electric Crain Operator, retiring in 1979 with over 25 years of service, and was a Catholic by faith. John was also a huge Atlanta Braves fan.

Mr. Dougherty was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bill Dougherty and a sister, Jean Mary Dougherty and is survived by two daughters, Catherine and Robert Kinner, and Dawn Bowen, all of Martinez; grandchildren, Deborah  Spargo and Chris, Ronda Kinner and James, Robert Kinner, II, Nicole Harmon and Chad, and Tyler Bowen; great-grandchildren, Catherine Spargo, Brinna Spargo and Robert Kinner III; very special friends, Fred and Norma Conception, and his beloved furry friends, Lady & Saudi.

The Dougherty family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:45 PM Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Dementia and Alzheimer's foundation and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation.
