Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death of Mr. Charles John Cofer, age 73, Zebina Rd, Louisville, who died Sunday, December 22, 2024, at his family home. Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, December 28, 2024, in the Louisville Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Reed officiating. Graveside service immediately following at Louisville City Cemetery.

The Honorary Pallbearers will include all former Jefferson High School Students taught by Mr. Cofer.

A loving father and grandfather, John was born in Louisville, GA on July 28, 1951, of the late Charles H. Cofer Jr. and Juanita Davis Cofer. His family later moved to Jackson, SC where John graduated from Jackson High School in 1969. He received his degree in Mathematics and Education from Augusta College. John retired after 19 years as a mathematics teacher at Jefferson County High School, where he was a passionate educator who was dedicated to his students, routinely attending their games and graduations and mentoring them into their young adult years.

John was dedicated to his family, committed to his community, and proud of his deep Georgia roots. He was an Eagle Scout, Teacher of the Year in 2002, a Star Teacher in 2009, and founder of the award-winning JCHS math team and the JCHS chapter of the math honor society Mu Alpha Theta. John was a member of the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church and a fierce Georgia Bulldogs fan who never left home without his Georgia hat. He was an avid golfer, gardener, cook, music lover, and adventurer who shared tales of his travels with his friends and family on Facebook.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Judith Ortiz Cofer, his brother, Jerry Cofer, and two nieces, Sunny Brock and Jennifer Young. He is survived by his second wife, Jean Johnson Cofer, Evans, GA; daughter, Tanya Cofer (Isidor Ruderfer) and grandson Elias John Ruderfer, all St. Croix, USVI; sisters, Diane Barnes (David), Julie Cofer, all Louisville, GA; nieces Kari Johnson (Alan Hadley) and Bonnie Wormsley; nephew William Charles Cofer (Chip) Sargent (Ashley); Aunts, Lettie Mohammad and Marianne Miller. Several cousins, including Helen Landrum, affectionately known to all as Aunt Helen, great nieces, and nephews.

The Cofer family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home in Louisville.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Jane Cole 183 Cole St Beech Island, SC 29842.

Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Care of Louisville is in charge of arrangements.
