Taylor Funeral Home of Gibson announces the death and services of Mr. Jimmy Gordan Newsome, age 85, of East Main Street Gibson, who died Sunday morning, January 25, 2026, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 28, in the Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. Don Black and Rev. Mark Kent officiating. Burial will follow in the Gibson City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Barney Usry, Greg Marsh, Don Hilson, Luke Deraney, Kevin` Usry and Mike Lyons.
Jimmy was born May 27, 1940, in Gibson, a son of the late Gordon “Tobe” Newsome and Edna Usry Newsome, He graduated from Glascock County High School, was a supervisor with Jebco Steel and retired after 56 years of service. Jimmy proudly served as a volunteer on the Glascock County Fire Department for 43 years and he attended Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church.
Mr. Newsone is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Betty Marsh Newsome (they married February 2, 1962); his brother, Denny Newsome of Augusta; his sister, Mary Jo Logue of Gibson; nieces, Lynne Walden, of Sparta, Bailey Logue of Thomson, Shellie Newsome of Gibson, Bethany Burrough of Grovetown, Breana Jones of Mitchell and Ashley Barnes of Sparta, Alexis Barnes of Sparta, nephews, John Newsome of Augusta and Chris Logue of Grovetown; several cousins and lifelong friends.
The family may be contacted at home and will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
