Mr. James E. "Jim" Horton, age 78, of Louisville died Wednesday, February 23, 2011.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, February 26, in the Louisville First Baptist Church with Rev. Hardy Owens and Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating. Pallbearers will be: Curtis Wilcher, Harry Gilmore, Jr., Clarence Henderson, Jr., Joe Culvern, Lloyd New, and Don Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Board of Directors of Queensborough National Bank and Trust Co., and members emeritus. Burial will follow in the Louisville City Cemetery.

A native of Cedartown, GA, Mr. Horton was a son of the late Hugh Benson & Avis Carmichael Horton. He was a 1951 graduate of Cedartown High School and was a United States Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean War. He began his newspaper career at the Cedartown Standard, working in all phases of the paper. Mr. Horton moved to Louisville in 1969 and was the former owner and publisher of The News and Farmer, the Wadley Herald, and the Jefferson Reporter newspapers. He was a member of Louisville First Baptist Church, and a former member of the board of Managers of Georgia Press Association, a member emeritus of Queensborough National Bank and Trust Co., a past president of the Louisville Chamber of Commerce, a former member of the Jefferson County Development Authority, and a charter member of the board of Directors of Ogeechee Valley Country Club.

Mr. Horton is survived by his wife of 58 years Lettye Sue Horton, a daughter: Terry (Steve) Green; two granddaughters: Jana and Julie, all of Louisville; one grandson: Jason (Rachel); and one great-grandson, Cade, all of Athens. Two brothers: William "Buddy" Horton of Carrollton, GA and Robert "Bobby" Horton of Cedartown, GA.; several nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the residence on Bermuda Drive in Louisville.
