Taylor funeral home of Gibson announces the death and funeral services of Gloria W. Hawkins, loving wife of the late Rev. Jamie Hawkins, Sr., age 90 of 6376 Highway 171 south, Edgehill, GA, who entered in to rest on Friday, April 24, 2026, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at Griffin Chapel Baptist Church, Mitchell GA at 3:00 pm on Tuesday April 28th with Rev. Mark Stewart, Brian Stewart, and Mrs. Effie Rachels officiating. Burial will follow at the Gibson Baptist Church Cemetery, Gibson GA.
Pallbearers are Steven Usry, James Hawkins, Landon Hawkins, Scarlett Hawkins, Ryan Usry, Austin Coxwell, Clay Holbrook, Jeff McGahee, Ricky Phillips, and Dwain Pittman.
Honorary Pallbearers are Alan Landrum, Will Landrum, Ronny Wood, Steven Hilson, and Tommy Rachels.
Mrs. Hawkins was the daughter of the late Lewis H. and Mary K. Walden and sister of the late Lewis A. and George T. Walden. Gloria was a 1954 honor graduate of GCCS in which she received perfect attendance for a total of 11 years. Shortly after high school graduation she married the love of her life, Jamie Hawkins, Sr. and they shared 51+ years together in Edgehill, GA until his death in December 2005. She had served as former Mayor for the city of Edgehill, worked for more than 40 years at Stapleton Garment Company in Stapleton and had previously enjoyed serving as clerk for the Glascock County Probate/Magistrate court until she was retired at the end of 2023. She was a member of Griffin Chapel Church where she served as pianist. She had attended and served as former pianist, clerk and treasurer at Euphrates Baptist Church, Edgehill. She was noted for the great job she did in alterations but was especially known for her baking and excellent cooking. Gloria had an unconditional love for her family and considered that her greatest pleasure in life. She had a big heart for others and was always doing something to help someone and had always put herself last.
Gloria is survived by her son and daughter-n-law Jamie Jr. and Kathy U. Hawkins, her daughter and son-n-law Kathy H. and Mike Lyons, grandsons, Steven and Kelly Usry, James and Kimberly Hawkins, great grandsons, Ryan and Katelyn Usry, and Landon Hawkins, and great granddaughters Scarlett Hawkins and Logan and Austin Coxwell, two great-great grandsons Colter Usry and Carter Coxwell and two great-great granddaughters Caroline Coxwell and Millie Kate Craw, a special friend Mrs. Sadie Powell of Augusta and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Griffin Chapel Church, Mitchell, GA. The family extends sincere thanks to Allay Hospice and many-many thanks for the professionalism, attentiveness, and concern that the two special caregivers, Mrs. Loretta Tucker and Mrs. Nancy Hardin shown to our Mom.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 pm on Monday April 27th at the funeral home.
