Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death and services of Mr. Gilbert Shivers Peel, Jr., age 80, of Vidette, Georgia, who died Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at his home.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday afternoon, January 21, 2026, in the Rose Dhu Cemetery in Vidette and will be conducted by Greg Coursey and Jerry Taylor.

Mr. Peel was born in Vidette on March 7, 1945, to the late Gilbert Shivers Peel, Sr. and Martha Brown Peel. A graduate of Waynesboro High School and Georgia Southern. He served in the Army National Guard and retired in June of 2007 from Georgia Power after 30 years of service. Gilbert was a member of Louisville ARP Church, was a former deacon, and was also a member of the Louisville Lions Club.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Justin Devore, sister, Sarah “Peggy” Peel, and a brother, Robert J. Peel and is survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly (Michael) Shelnut of Winterville, Natalie (Wayne) Johnson of Augusta, and Ashley (Dana) Peel Griffin of Statesboro, brother Leslie (Deborah) Peel of Vidette, special friend, Vicki Drew Mitchell, 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends.

In lieu of flowers, family request consider donations to the town of Vidette for the Rose Due Cemetery 7052 GA Hwy 24 W Waynesboro, GA 30830.
