Gerry Allen

Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death of Mr. Gerald Johnson (Gerry) Allen, age 81 of Mt. Pleasant, SC, who died Saturday evening, November 28, 2015 in the Mt. Pleasant Hospital.

Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, December 3, in the Louisville City Cemetery with Dr. Bill Daniel officiating.

A native of East Point, GA, Gerry was a son of the late John Edward Allen & Lula Johnson Allen. He graduated from Russell High School in East Point, GA. Gerry was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving from 1957 until 1961, when he was appointed a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Reserves and served until 1965. He was a member of the U.S. Navy's Hurricane Hunters. Gerry received a Bachelor's degree in forestry in 1956 from the University of Georgia and worked 40 years in forestry, primarily with Union Camp. He was a member of Springfield Methodist Church, former Vidalia Rotary Club member and served one term on the Vidalia City Council and was an Editorial Columnist for the Vidalia Advance Newspaper.

Gerry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Dr. John Edward Allen, Jr., & Thomas Erwin Allen and is survived by his wife of 46 years; Gayle Carroll Allen of Mt Pleasant, SC, son; Gerald J. Allen, Jr., of Valley Glen, CA, daughter; Leslie Allen Lane, of Mt. Pleasant, SC., brother; McKenzie Williams Allen, granddaughters; Anne Allen Lane and Ansley Rose Lane, several nieces & nephews.
