George Lenard Brooks

Mr. George Lenard Brooks, age 95 of Avera, died Friday, November 29, 2013 in the Gibson Health & Rehabilitation center.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 1, in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Avera with Rev. Nathan Adams officiating. Mr. Brooks will lie in state from 1:00 PM till service time. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg Brooks, Jeff Brooks, Dave Usry, Joe Brooks, Mike Adams, Johnny Padgett, Jr., Charles Padgett & Terry Brooks.
Mr. Brooks was born December 14, 1917 as son of the late John Wesley & Berta Hadden Brooks. He was a veteran of World War II serving in Patton's 3rd Army & the Battle of the Bulge. He spent the rest of his life farming and raising his family and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for more than 70 years.
Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 59 years Dera Padgett Brooks, 5 brothers and 2 sisters and is survived by son Wade (Janice) Brooks of Avera, daughter Elaine B. (Billy) James of Martinez, sister Marie Dixon of Stapleton, grandchildren: Sherri B. Weeks, & Chris (Sarah) Brooks, Great-grandchildren are Samantha Weeks, Ethan & Janna Brooks, Orry Lewless, Dane Lewless, and Matthew Lewless, and a special friend Troy Hadden of Avera.
The Brooks family would like to express their gratitude for the years of care & friendship to the staff of Gibson Health & Rehabilitation.
In lieu of flowers, family request donations are made to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 1350 Church Street Avera, GA 30803.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Saturday, November 30, at the funeral home.
