Taylor Funeral Home of Gibson announces the death and funeral services of Mrs. Florrie Hughes, age 103, of Dearing who died Tuesday evening, November 8, 2022, in the Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, November 13, in the Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. Ronnie Dixon and Rev. David Severance officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

A native of Mitchell Mrs. Hughes was a daughter of the late Albert Williams and Mary Lou Walden Williams.  She was a 1930 graduate of Gibson High School. She was lifelong member of Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday School for many years and at the time of her death, she was the oldest member. She helped open the McClallen five & dime store in Thomson where she worked for several years. Mrs. Hughes loved the lord with all her heart her greatest pastime was spending time with her family.

Mrs. Hughes is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Johnnie Hughes, siblings, Ray Williams, Aubrey Williams, Nanlee Griswell, Agnes Secord and a granddaughter Stacey Strickland and is survived by sons, Larry Hughes (Margaret) of Dearing, and Harold Hughes (Ginny) of Grovetown, brother, John Williams, of Savannah, grandchildren Lisa Pugh (Randy) of Rosemark, Tenn., Nathan Hughes of Malden, Mass. And Michael Hughes of Martinez, great grandchildren, Lauren Hughes, Emily Hughes, Katelyn Pugh, Amanda Pugh, Cassie Pugh and Payton Dennis, several nieces & nephews.

The family will receive friends, 1:00 to 2:00 Sunday pm prior to the funeral services in the Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church.
