Felton Miller

July 29, 1935 — July 22, 2023

Louisville

Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death and services of Eugene Felton Miller, age 87, who completed his journey here on earth and crossed the river into eternity at 4:07 am on July 22nd 2023.

Felton was born to Ethel Lorene Avant Miller and Jesse Ray Miller on July 29, 1935. He professed his faith in Christ and was born into the Kingdom of God as a teenager at Moxley Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marianne Cofer Miller, and their five children: Owen (Mary), Neal (Jean), Melody Miller Lewis (Ken), Eric (Aurore), and Miranda Miller Forster (Len), 17 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren.

He was a self-employed barber for nearly 60 years and was well-loved by a large clientele spanning as much as three generations of local families. Felton, in his honest humility, often said that when he was gone, people would just say, "Well, he was a pretty good barber." The truth is, he was an excellent barber--the "flat top king." He was certified in men's hairstyling and cosmetology and served the Jefferson County community with his work and faith.

Having worked a variety of jobs throughout his teen years, "Barber Miller" was also a "Jack of all trades." For years, he moonlighted as a gunsmith in the back of his barber shop and was often able to repair firearms for which parts were no longer available. He was skilled at woodworking and carpentry and built his own house. He also knew enough about plumbing, electrical and gas installation that he did much of his own maintenance and provided for the family through his knowledge of gardening and farming, proving that "a country boy can survive."

An avid hunter and fisherman, he instilled in his children a love of the forests and streams and augmented their diet with fish and game, teaching them to "live off the land".

He stood by his faith and his principles throughout his life, was a man of his word, and brought his family up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

A memorial service will be held in the Taylor Funeral Home Chapel on July 29th at 3:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the Parkinson's Foundation or to your local charity of choice.

Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Care of Louisville is in charge of arrangements.
