Mrs. Etta Griswell Wilcher, wife of the late William H. Wilcher, entered her heavenly home on October 16, 2025.

Etta was the daughter of Mike and Sallie Cheely Griswell.  Born on Nov. 27, 1933, Etta is survived by her two children: William Rodney Wilcher (Gail), Thomson, Ga, and Amanda Jane Wilcher Chalker.  She is also survived by her four grandsons: Rodney Adam Wilcher (Heather), Brock Christopher Wilcher (Diane), William Wilcher Davis (Breanna) and Zackary Benton Davis (Jasmine). Seven surviving great grandchildren include Abigail Wilcher, Connor Wilcher, Logan Wilcher, Luke Wilcher, Harper Davis, Hunter Davis and Waylon Davis. Etta is also survived by one sibling, Joann G. Usry (Joe Dean).

Etta was predeceased by six siblings: Mike Allen Griswell (Eva), Dorothy G. Williams (Ray), Joseph Griswell (Iris), Louis Griswell (Essie), Louie Griswell (Lucille), and John "Rock" Griswell (Daisy).

Etta graduated from Gibson High School in 1950 when only 11 grades were required. She attended Berry College for two years, earned a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education at Georgia College and a Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Georgia.

Etta taught school in Glascock County, Richmond County, and at Briarwood Academy.  She also served as Glascock County School Superintendent for twelve years and then as Director of CSRA RESA for three years.

Etta was a long-time member of Trinity Independent Church (formerly Mitchell Methodist) in Mitchell, Ga

A graveside service will be held in the Mitchell City Cemetery, Mitchell Ga on Saturday October 18 at 11:00 am. With Rev Mary Griswell Officiating Pallbearers will be Adam Wilcher, Brock Wilcher, William Davis, Zackary Davis, Jody Usry and Anthony Griswell Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Chance Lee Griffin, Skip Griffin & Kim "Casey" Carroll. The family will receive friends immediately following the services.
