Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death that On Thursday, January 22, 2026, Doris Ellen Turk Jackson, a woman of great faith in Christ, passed away at 86 years. Doris, born in Decatur, GA, and daughter of Ellen and William (Bill) Turk, was married to George Jackson, of Moultrie, GA, 58 years. They met at church and were later married at First Baptist Church of Atlanta. They made their home in several places around Georgia, including Atlanta, Albany, Moultrie, and finally Louisville, where they lived for 42 years.
Doris attended Mercer University and Huntingdon College in Alabama, but after marriage chose to be a wife and homemaker for a time, and later, a Head Start paraprofessional, Avon sales representative, bookkeeper, jewelry store owner, and lastly, “Mimi” to her grandchildren. Locally, she worked at Carver Elementary as secretary, bookkeeper at Henderson Chevrolet, and co-owner of Louisville Jewelers with her daughter, Donna.
Doris began taking piano lessons at the age of 6 and became a gifted pianist. She shared her talent for many years as pianist at Shekinah Baptist in Louisville and as a piano instructor. After retirement, George surprised Doris with a baby grand piano for her enjoyment at home. Often, she could be heard playing church hymns, waltzes, and Disney favorites for her grandchildren. Having a beautiful voice and ability to read music, she sang in the church choir and played hand bells. Additionally, she provided companionship and care to her dear friend, Lena Patton.
In her younger years, Doris enjoyed playing bridge, badminton, & tennis. Later in life, she acted in several plays in Bartow, GA. The Red Hat Society, crossword puzzles, reading, and writing were some of her favorite activities. Throughout her life, she wrote fictional pieces and had a few stories and articles published. She loved the beach and was especially fond of St. Simon’s Island where she could people watch for hours. She was well known for her delicious homemade bread and was often asked by neighbors when her next loaves would be ready.
Doris is treasured for her kind heart and ready smile, shining love to many, even in the late stage of her Alzheimer’s. We wish to thank several special people who provided their love, support, and delicious meals to Doris at home prior to her move to a personal care home: Jeannette Thompson, Pamela Walden, Loretta Thomas, and Gladys Hill (who also calls Heaven home). Thank you, Ladies!
Doris lived out her final days, over 3 years, at Silver Linings Personal Care Home in Stapleton, GA, and was known as the Greeter to all who entered. Some visitors never knew her name but fondly called her the “I love you” lady because those were her favorite words to everyone coming and going. The family expresses much gratitude to all the staff and owners of Silver Linings for their love, generosity, and excellent care. May God bless each of you who showered our mother with love.
Doris is survived by three daughters: Laura Jackson of Atlanta, Melanie Roberts (Grayland Poole) of Evans, and Donna Davis (James) of Louisville; three grandchildren: Cassidy Lloyd, Jace Poole, and Sky Poole; and three great grandchildren: Tatum, Deacon, and Caroline Lloyd.
Doris requested no memorial service be held for her. In lieu of flowers, she asked that you honor her memory best by loving people. Love family, friends, strangers, and those who are difficult to love.
“We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19
