Mr. Donald Lee Hartley, age 83, of Spruce Street in Louisville died Saturday February 19, 2011 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 22, in the Louisville First Baptist Church with Rev. Hardy Owens and Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating. The United States Army will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Louisville Lions Club and the Ingles coffee Club. Burial will follow in the family plot in the Louisville City Cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Hartley was born in Washington County, Georgia, and lived nearly his entire life in Louisville. He was the son of the late Marvin E. Hartley, Sr. & Sally West Hartley. He joined the Army in 1946 and served one year in Japan. He retired as Command Sgt. Major with 40 years of service in the U.S. Army and the National Guard. He shot on the rifle teams for the National Guard for many years. Mr. Hartley played minor league baseball for the 1948-1949 Sparta Saints. He also played softball for the Mudcats. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. Mr. Hartley was a member of Louisville First Baptist Church for over 60 years and was a member of the Louisville Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Margaret; sons: Mike & Nicole Hartley and Hugh Phillips, both of Grovetown; daughters: Lynn & Steve Farmer of Macon, Sue & Charles Padgett of Avera, Linda & Billy Murphey of Bangs, TX, and Brenda & Wayne Ash of Martinez; sisters: Sybil Tull of Durham, NC, Nita Bargainnier of Brunswick, and Mavine Kardys of Savannah; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will be at the residence at 302 Spruce Street in Louisville.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
