Taylor Funeral Home of Gibson announces the death and services of Mrs. Daisy Mathis Chalker, age 83 of East Main Street Gibson, who died Wednesday evening, October 21, 2026, in the Gibson Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 24, 2006, in the Sheppard Memorial Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Gibson, with Rev. Faye Burgamy officiating. Pallbearers will be Thomas Davis, John Davis, Luke Davis. Steve Mathis, Bobby Newsome & Keith Mathis. Burial will follow the service at the Gibson City Cemetery.
Mrs. Chalker was born in Louisville, a daughter of the late Elijah Thomas “Tom” Mathis and Martha Sue Raley Mathis. Daisy graduated from Glascock County High School and worked in the textile industry for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Moose Club Chapter 3000, and Women of the Moose. Daisy loved reading, sewing, and doing crafts, especially arranging flowers to place on loved ones’ graves. She was known as the "Avon Lady" around town. After Daisy’s retirement from the garment industry, she took great pride in becoming “Grandma” to the Davis boys- Thomas, John and Luke, who are her great nephews. She especially became close to Luke, who she started caring for when he was just 8 weeks old. The boys had many fun-filled days playing outside and “farming in the dirt” with their Aunt Daisy. They recall going with Aunt Daisy to sell “Avon”, which was another side job Daisy had.
Daisy was preceded in death by her parents, sister Ruby Davis, brothers Lamar “Charlie” Mathis, Harry Mathis, Tommy Mathis & Ray Mathis, and is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years John Lee “J.L.” Chalker of Gibson, daughter and son in-law, Robin Louise Chalker Hobbs (Mark) of Stapleton, several nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
Special thanks to all the staff of Gibson Health and Rehab for the compassionate care and attention provided to our loved one and our family during the past almost 2 years. We truly appreciate each of you. God bless you….
