Clarence "Brother" Henderson

October 10, 1930 — October 6, 2022

Louisville

Mr. Clarence Henderson, Jr., ("Brother"), 91, of Louisville, GA passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2022, after an extended illness. He was the beloved husband of Betty Jean Smith Henderson.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Louisville First Baptist Church with the Reverend Jonathan Melchoir and Reverend Roger Holley officiating. The family will receive visitors following the service in the church reception hall.

A native son of Louisville, Mr. Henderson was a son of the late C. W. Henderson, Sr. and Nellie Beckum Henderson, and the brother of the late Robert W. Henderson and William H. Henderson. Mr. Henderson was a graduate of the University of Georgia and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After his military service he returned to Louisville where he joined his father and brother as a salesman in operating Henderson Chevrolet Co. He later would become President after his father's death. He was an active member of the Lions Club serving in various positions, a member of the Louisville Housing Authority, and was a volunteer fireman for the Fire Department. Mr. Henderson was a long-time member of Louisville First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Treasurer.

Mr. Henderson enjoyed the comradery of the numerous friends he made in his lifetime. To this day, many have fondly recalled purchasing their first automobile or truck from him, usually recounting a humorous adage he shared with them. He was an avid fan of many sports, but most notably the Atlanta Braves and the UGA Bulldogs. He and his wife attended numerous UGA home games well into their seventies tailgating with other fans; and they never missed the bus trip from Jekyll Island to Jacksonville for the GA/FL game until their health would not permit them to do so any longer.

Mr. Henderson was also preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Lee Carwile, who he greatly loved, and her husband, Eddie, and an infant son, Jeffrey Allen Henderson. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Betty Jean; his granddaughter, Leah Alison Carwile; step-daughter, Vicki Norman Jones (Tommy); granddaughter, Kalisa Jones Staats (Akim); grandson, Watson Jones; great grandsons, A.J. Vincelli (Melissa), Holden Vincelli and Will Vincelli; and one great-great granddaughter, Addison Jean Vincelli; several nieces and nephews; and his good friends, Carol Ann Ledger, Eddie Williams and Frank Ethridge.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Louisville First Baptist Church, and Officers and Directors of the Louisville Lions Club.

Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund of the First Baptist Church, 101 East Ninth Street, Louisville, Georgia, 30434.

Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville is in charge of arrangements.
