Taylor Funeral Home of Gibson announces the death and funeral services of Charles Cleveland Summers age 85 of Gibson, Ga. who passed away Sunday morning July 14, 2024.
A native of Atlanta, Mr. Summers was one of ten children born to the late Charles Lewis Summers and Helen Corine Gibson Summers. He served in the Army National Guard and had a career in the construction industry for 40+ years, most notably with Southern Champion and with Steel & Sons. Charles was a member of Stapleton Baptist Church and a beloved citizen of the Stapleton and Gibson communities where he always offered a helping hand to his friends and neighbors. Charles best attribute and passion was to make everyone around him laugh.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Judy Bell and Cathy Bradley. He is survived by his wife of 25 years Sandy Haywood Summers; his sons Tommy (Tracie), Mark (Robert), Kurt, his daughter Shelia Mobley; his stepchildren Brett Hadden (Michelle), Bo Shelton (Karina) and Lisa Tavares (Zach); his siblings Charlotte Winslett, George (Connie), Deanna Massengale (Johnny), Richard (Linda), Howard (Jeannie), Warren (Donna) and Susie King(Ricky); his grandchildren TJ (Crystal), Chris (Olivia), Jimmy (Ryan), Dustin Mobley, Ethan Shelton (Sabrina), Anna Shelton, Austin Shelton(Aimee), Dylan and Brandon Beckworth and great grandchildren Andrew, Charles, Trenton, Rhett, Lillie, Austin Jr. and Billielyn.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday July 18, 2024, in the Sheppard Memorial Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home Gibson with Rev. Josh Mosley officiating. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery in Gibson. Men honored to serve as pallbearers, will be his grandsons.
The Summers family will receive friends 12:30 to 2:00 PM Thursday prior to services at 2:00 at the funeral home.
