Taylor Funeral Home is sharing this obituary as a courtesy to the family of Mrs. Catherine Sammons Todd Hockenbury.

Graveside Services for Mrs. Catherine Sammons Todd Hockenbury, 84, of Gibson, GA, who entered into rest October 10, 2022, will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 1:30 PM in The Gibson First Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 12 until 1 at the Taylor Funeral Home, Gibson, GA. Mrs. Hockenbury was born on September 9, 1938 in Gibson, GA, at home, the only child of Rhyna Ann Haywood Sammons and Llewellyn Sammons, and was raised by her Grandmother Kate Lamb Haywood. She was a retired Community Worker for DFACS, and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Harlem Ward where she accepted several church callings, and was church pianist for a number of years. She was routinely in the service of others. Catherine found joy in nature, genealogy, gardening, music, and animals. A hard-working, independent lady, she often held 2 and 3 jobs at a time. Even after decline and disease took many of life's pleasures from her, she was still able to find appreciation in good food, humor, the wonders of nature, and her pets. She was preceded in death by the late James Dwight Todd and Gene Hockenbury. Survivors include her daughter, Traci Todd (Jeff) Billips, Gibson; a son, Colonel Michael (Rebecca) Brown, USAF stationed in Jakarta, Indonesia; four grandchildren, Leah, Ian, Sasha, and Carolina Brown; a sister, Kandy Vance (Dan) Calkins, Newport News, VA. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Brenda Welch, Catherine's kind, devoted, and trustworthy caregiver. Posey Funeral Directors of North Augusta in charge of arrangements (803-278-1811). Visit the registry at www.poseycares.com
