A lifelong outdoorsman, he built his life and family around the swamps and saltwaters of old West Central Florida. Many that knew him could tell tales of adventures with him, as well as account for his many close calls and a steady stream of good luck, which seemed to eventually bring a laugh to all. His love and appreciation of the traditions of days long past, now live in the hearts of his family and friends. A “go-getter” (as he called himself), his work ethic was steadfast, and his family was his support, as he ran several businesses in various career fields over the years. With him, sleeping in was unheard of, and you would certainly be tired at day’s end. He believed in giving opportunities to others, and many could testify about his persistence in giving them a chance and making them believe they could be successful. Although he was not a man of many words, he made his words count, and his handshake was his unbreakable contract. He made sure his loved ones were taken care of, and providing was a hallmark of his character.
His retirement years brought him to Jefferson County, Georgia, where he found his farm home and a loving community, but he never actually retired. He grew in faith steadily all his life, but never as much as he did at home on the farm. Even in his final days, he would ask about farm chores and sing to the Lord.
