Norbet Eugene (Gene) Hockenbury

Taylor Funeral Home of Gibson announces the death and funeral services of Mr. Norbet Eugene (Gene) Hockenbury, age 81 of Lamb Street, Gibson, Ga., who died Wednesday, August 16, 2017 in the VA Medical Center, Augusta, Ga.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 19, 2017 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Harlem Ward, with Bishop Kirk Mitchell officiating.  Pallbearers will be:  Jeff Billips, Chris Banks, Michael Hardwick, Ken Pullum, Michael Phillips, Elder Jared Darrington and Elder William Whitfield.  Burial will follow at the Latter Day Saints Cemetery in Edgehill.

A native of Leitchfield, Kentucky, Gene was a son of the late Murl Hockenbury and Ella Jane Watson Hockenbury. He was in the United States Army, retired from Lance, Inc., and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Harlem Ward. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Toby Hockenbury, David Hockenbury, Sammy Hockenbury and Jimmy Hockenbury and a sister, Anna Lou Decker and is survived by his wife, Catherine Sammons Hockenbury of Gibson; daughters, Theresa Carter of Bardstown, KY, Sheila Doty (Wayne) of Taylorsville, KY and Sandy Adams of White, IN; sons, Damon Fleming (Allison) of Mesa, AZ and Jarrod Fleming (Crystal) of Mesa, AZ; step-daughter, Traci Todd (Jeff Billips) of Gibson,; brother, Jerry Hockenbury of Louisville, KY, 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

The Hockenbury family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, August 18, 2017 in the funeral home.
