James Wheeler Obituary

Mr. James Armstrong Wheeler, 70, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Emory University Hospital, Bridges Hospice, Atlanta, Georgia. A devoted Christian, husband, father & grandfather, James influenced the lives of all he knew.
James was born on July 18, 1948.  The youngest child of Luther Wheeler & Mae Reese Wheeler, he has a sister, Mary Wheeler Leaptrott (Benjie) of Wadley, Ga., a brother, Chantless Wheeler (Brandy) of Louisville, Ga.
James graduated from Louisville Academy in 1967.  Upon graduation he enlisted  in the United States Army, where he served 2 tours in Vietnam, finishing his service as a Sergeant.  He finished his working career at Jefferson Energy as a journey lineman foreman after 42 years in 2010.
Devoted to The Lord, James was a member of Central Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon.  He was a founding member of The Jefferson County Chapter of The Gideons International, served with The Kilpatrick Association, Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief and The Kiaros Prison Ministry.  He was also a member of the Louisville Lions Club and Louisville Jaycees.  James enjoyed Thomas Jefferson Academy football where he was a member of the chain crew for over 20 years.  He also enjoyed coaching for The Jefferson County Recreation Department for 10 years.
James is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Jeanie Everett Wheeler, his son & daughter in law, Jamie and Laura Wheeler, daughter and son in law, Jenna and Ken Watkins, all of Bartow. Grandchildren include; Tre & Taylor Wheeler, Tori & Hutch Wheeler, Lane, Rylee & McKenlee Watkins, and great grandson Trevor Wheeler, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for James Armstrong Wheeler will be Thursday, December 6 at 2:00 PM, in the Wadley Baptist Church with burial at Central Baptist Church Cemetery, Wadley, Ga. following the service.  Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Taylor Funeral Home, Louisville, Ga.
Pallbearers will be: Larry Morgan, Tommy New, David Gunn, Mike Cofer, Denny Barrow, William Hadden, Wayne Marsh, Tom Watson & George Ratchford.  Honorary Pallbearers will be The Gideons of Jefferson County.
