Edith Chalker

Taylor Funeral Home of Gibson announces the death and funeral services of Mrs. Dorothy Edith Chalker, age 95 of Gibson, who died Monday morning January 21, 2019 in the University Hospital, Augusta, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 24, 2019 in the Gibson United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ed Chance officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Milton Chalker, Paul May, John Newsome, Larry Newsome, Rowan Newsome and Liam Newsome.

A native of Glascock County, Mrs. Edith was a daughter of the late Joel and Alma English.  She and her husband were the owners and operators of Albert Chalker & Son General Store in Gibson for many years. She loved gardening and working in her yard and flower beds.   

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband of 64 years, Loys Chalker, and is survived by a son and daughter in law, Tim & Freda Chalker, of Hepzibah, daughters & son in law, Sandra Stringfield, of Gibson, Cheryl & Denny Newsome, of Augusta, sister, Martha Sims, of Stapleton, brothers & sisters in law; Joel & Katherine English, Barksdale & Ruby English, all of Augusta, 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 23 at the funeral home.
