Obituary
Mrs. Lucy Steed Strickland, age 89, of Highway 1 North, Louisville, died Saturday, December 5, 2009, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 8, 2009, in the Louisville First Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Montgomery & Rev. Hardy Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Louisville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Stanley, Ott Stephens, Larry Morgan, Wendell Stephens, Frank Etheridge, & John R. Murphy, III. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Louisville First Baptist Church.
A native of Winfield, GA, Mrs. Strickland was a daughter of the late William Ernest & Ruby Maude Pascal Steed. Before retiring Mrs. Strickland was a caterer & florist working with Thigpen Flowers in Wrens. She was a member of Louisville First Baptist Church for more than 50 years, and the Philathea Sunday School Class. A loving mother, grandmother, & friend, Mrs. Strickland made quilts for every one’s special occasions.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, James Paul Strickland, Jr., brothers, Charles Steed, & Bill Collins, & a sister, Polly Thigpen, and is survived by a daughter, Frances & Jay Roddy of Columbia, SC., four sons, Jimmy & Becky Strickland of Charlotte, NC., Charles Strickland, of Louisville, Glenn & Debbie Strickland of Perry, FL., & Robert “BJ” & Glenda Lee Strickland of Louisville, daughter-in-law Pam Strickland of Greenville, SC, brother-in-law, Joe & Shirley Strickland of Hickory, NC, 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren several nieces & nephews.
The Strickland family will be at the residence on Highway 1 North in Louisville and the family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, at Taylor Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests, those desiring, please make contributions to the Louisville First Baptist Church at 101 E. 9th St., Louisville, Georgia 30434.
