Obituary
Louisville - Rev. Edward Emmett (Ed) Deen, age 80, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009, in the University Hospital in Augusta.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00AM Friday, May 22, 2009, in the Louisville First United Methodist Church with Dr. James T. Pennell, Rev. Emory C. Gilbert, and Rev. V.L. Daughtry officiating. A service will also be held 4:00 PM Friday in the Hopewell United Methodist Church in Baxley, Georgia, with Rev. Lamar Rabun officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Jack McCullough officiating.
A native of Baxley, Georgia, Rev. Deen was a son of the late Emmett and Lenora Waters Deen. He was a 1945 graduate of Baxley High School and in 1951 he enrolled in Rhinehart Junior College graduating in 1956, then attended Asbury College majoring in English, and graduated with a Bachelor of Art Degree in 1955. Rev. Deen then entered Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta and graduated in 1959 with a Master of Divinity. He was ordained as a Methodist minister in 1956 at his home church, Hopewell United Methodist Church in Baxley. He served in the ministry for 50 years, and pastored Parott United Methodist Church, Parott, GA, Irwinton United Methodist Church, Irwinton, GA, St. Mark United Methodist Church, Douglas, GA, Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Columbus, GA, Lakeland United Methodist Church, Lakeland, GA, Alma United Methodist Church, Alma, GA, Louisville United Methodist Church, Louisville, GA, Waynesboro United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, GA, and Hopewell United Methodist Church, Baxley, GA
Rev. Deen is survived by his wife Mary Eva Deen, of Louisville, a daughter, Betty Sue Green and her husband Ricky of Bartow, a brother, Paul Deen and his wife, Tillie, of Baxley, two grandchildren, Brandy Green of Louisville and Michael Green, of Louisville, also several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The Deen family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, at the funeral home and on Friday 3:00 to 4:00 PM at Hopewell United Methodist Church in Baxley.
