Mr. Johnny J. “Deek” Jones, age 73, Plum Street Louisville, died Wednesday evening August 26, 2009, in the Jefferson Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 29, 2009, in the Louisville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with Rev. Douglas White officiating. Burial will be in the Louisville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Walter Jones, Tommy Jones, Dr. Bob Jones, Andrew Pickens Jones III, Don H. Evans Jr., Frank Young, Matt Poje’, and Charlie Anderson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Donald Handberry, Gary Anderson, Clark Evans, William Hadden, Tommy New, Frankie Hartley, Rocky Gilmore, Vincient Cannida, and the Deacons and Elders of Louisville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
A native of Louisville, Mr. Jones was a son of the late Andrew Pickens and Marie Hadden Jones; He served in the Georgia National Guard. Mr. Jones was the owner and president of Jones & Son Timber and was respected in the timber industry for over forty years. He was a farmer and a member of Louisville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church for more than 61 years where he served as a deacon. Deek was a member of the Louisville Lions Club, was a mason, and had served on the board of Bartow Academy.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Marie Jones, brothers, William P. Jones and Andrew Pickens Jones, Jr., and a sister, Andrea Jones, and is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Suzanne Malone Jones of Louisville, son, Johnny J. Jones, Jr. & his wife Melonie of Louisville, daughter Mary Jones Waters & her husband Fred of Evans, brothers, Bobby Jones of Washington & Harry Jones of Louisville, sister, Sally Ree Netherland of Louisville, two grandchildren, Anna Waters & John Waters, several nieces & nephews.
The Jones family will be at the residence and will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00PM Friday, August 28, at the funeral home. The family suggests that donations be made to the Louisville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church at 824 Walnut Street, Louisville, Georgia 30434.
