Louisville - Judge Quillian Lynwood Bryant, Jr., of Walnut Street, died Wednesday morning March 25, 2009, in the Doctors Hospital in Augusta.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday in the Louisville United Methodist Church with Rev. David Hibberts and Rev. Beau Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Louisville City Cemetery with military honors.
Judge Bryant was a lifelong resident of Louisville, a son of the late Quillian L. and Louise Smith Bryant, Sr. He was a 1946 graduate of Louisville Academy. He attended Georgia Southern, formerly Teacher’s College, and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1956 with a law degree. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and had worked for the TVA. He was the Jefferson County Probate Judge for 48 years and was a member of the American Legion, the County Officers Association of Georgia, the State Bar of Georgia, Council of Probate Judges, and was a lifelong member of the Louisville United Methodist Church.
Judge Bryant was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his loving wife: Ann Holliday Bryant of Louisville; son: Dana Jones of Athens; daughter and son-in-law: Stacey and John Hughes of Decatur; step-daughter: Jan Waters of Pensacola, FL; two grandchildren: Eleanor Hughes and Jack Hughes, both of Decatur; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Page and Prescott Bowden of Grayson: nephews: Scott & Michelle Bowden and their children Dobbs, Kayanna, and Josie; Bud and Melanie Bowden and their children Mindy, Haley, and Robbie.
Pallbearers will be William Hadden, Bob Marshall, Robert Clements, Billy Samples, Jim Polhill, Bill Easterlin, Olan Netherland, and Ronald Josey. Honorary pallbearers will be the Jefferson County elected officials and the Jefferson County Commissioners Mickey Jones, Murray Bowman, Gary Hutchins, Mickey Moses, John Murphy, Jimmy Gordy, Tommy New, Johnny Davis, William Rabun, Gonis C. Davis, Henry Smart, Paul Bryan, Sonny Lamb, Eugene Lewis, Jim McKnight, John Paul Jones, John Pilcher, Don Branch, Junior Davis, Ricky Wasden, Tyler Mahaffey, Brannon Bargeron, Asholyn Lampp, and Jimmy Miller.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral Home.
