Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 4, 2016 in the Wadley City Cemetery, with Rev. Jonathan Witt officiating.

Born in 1931 in Lyons, Georgia, Wilda was the sixth of eight children of the late Jarrett Nathaniel and Lola Viola Green. She married James Thomas Gordy of Louisville, Georgia and was a supportive partner of his 28 years of military service, living in Japan, Germany and numerous stateside duty stations.  After his retirement from the U.S. Army, she joined him in owning and operating a restaurant and lounge in Las Cruces, New Mexico.  Upon his death in 1979, she moved back to her home state of Georgia, eventually settling in Hawkinsville, where she displayed and entrepreneurial spirit by partnering in two businesses:  a jewelry store and a tea room.  During her years in Hawkinsville, Wilda was an active member of the First Baptist Church and enjoyed time spent in fellowship with her Sunday school class friends.  She eventually moved to Cary, North Carolina in 2000 to be with her daughter and family.  She worked as a Fine Jewelry Specialist at Belk of Cary Towne Center for 12 years until her retirement in 2012.

Mrs. Gordy is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, James Green; sisters, Imagene Head and Rheba Leaptrott and is survived by daughter, Roxie Gordy Tolman and Paul of Cary, North Carolina; sisters, Doris Sylvester of Fayetteville, Georgia; Nita Brantley and Merlyn Jones of Louisville, Georgia and Bernice Cloy of Hawkinsville, Georgia; grandsons, Jarrett Nathaniel Tolman and Gwen of Charlotte, North Carolina and Adam David Tolman and Natalia of Augusta, Georgia; great grandsons, Declan Gordy Tolman of Charlotte, North Carolina, Gideon Robert and James David (already loved, soon expected) of Augusta, Georgia, many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that the memorials be made to Transitions Life Care of Wake County (Hospice of Wake County), 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, North Carolina 27607.

Wilda was a woman of faith whose beautiful blue eyes, genuine smile and fun loving personality warmed those around her.  A gentle and humble spirit, she was meek in the eyes of God.  “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”  Matthew 5:5.
