Ernest Kardys

Taylor Funeral Home Louisville announces the death and services of MSgt Ernest Ted Kardys, 94, of Savannah, Georgia, who died Sunday afternoon, August 30, 2015, at Bryan County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond Hill.

Mr. Kardys was born on April 12, 1921 in Hartford, Connecticut and was a veteran of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, having served in the United States Air Force.  He was the last surviving local member of the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum and was retired from Armstrong State University.

Mr. Kardys was preceded in death by his wife Mavine Hartley Kardys and is survived by his daughter, Leah Kaye Barnes of Brunswick, Georgia; his son, Keith Douglas Kardys of Savannah, Georgia; four grandchildren, Melanie Barnes and her husband, Tony Ballweg, Hilary Barnes and her husband, Michael, Chelsea Barnes and her husband, Kyle, and Brian Barnes and his wife, April; six great-grandchildren, PFC Justice Barnes, Adriene Gaskin, Grady Vaughn, Tarilyn Turner, Christopher Barnes and Tyler Barnes; a number of nieces and nephews, and his neighbor who was also one of his caregivers, Miriam Walker.

Graveside memorial service honoring both Mr. and Mrs. Kardys will be held 11:00 AM Saturday September 12, 2015 in the Louisville City Cemetery with Military Honors.
