Jerry & Tara Taylor and the Staff of Taylor Funeral Home are especially proud of the role our veterans have played in the freedoms we enjoy today.
We will complete all applications for any benefits to which a veteran or their family are entitled. The Veterans Administration provides benefits for a veteran's family if they can provide a copy of an honorable discharge. These benefits include a flag, burial in a national or State Veteran’s cemetery, a grave marker, military honors at the graveside, Presidential Memorial Certificate, and in some cases monetary allowances toward burial expenses.
WHO IS ELI GIBLE
To be eligible you must be a veteran discharged or separated from active duty under conditions other than dishonorable, and have completed the required period of service. U.S. Armed Forces members who die on active duty are also eligible, as are spouses and dependent children of eligible living and deceased veterans, and of current and deceased armed forces members.
BURIAL FL AG
Taylor Funeral Home will obtain an American flag for veterans we serve. It may drape the casket of a veteran or be displayed during the services. After the service, the flag may be given to the next of kin or a close associate.
VETERAN CEMETERIES
Burial is permitted in any National or State Veterans Cemetery in the United States, depending on the eligible and availability.
An eligible veteran must have been discharged or separated from active duty under honorable conditions and have completed the required period of service. If burial is in a veteran’s cemetery, a grave can also be reserved for a surviving spouse.

VETERA N MONUMENT
Taylor Funeral Home will complete the necessary forms to obtain a marker, and place the marker on the gravesite free of charge. The VA provides headstones and markers for the unmarked graves of veterans anywhere in the world. Flat bronze, flat granite, flat marble, upright granite, and upright marble types are available to mark the grave in a style consistent with the place of burial. Niche markers also are available to mark columbaria used for inurnment of cremated remains. Headstones and markers are inscribed with the name of the deceased, the years of birth and death, and branch of service. Optional items that also may be inscribed at VA expense are: military grade, rank or rate; war service, such as World War II; months and days of birth and death; an emblem reflecting one's beliefs; valor awards; and the Purple Heart. When burial is in a national, state veteran or military cemetery, the headstone or marker is ordered through the cemetery, which will place it on the grave. Information regarding style, inscription, shipping, and placement can be obtained from the cemetery. When burial occurs in a cemetery other than a national cemetery or a state veteran’s cemetery, the VA does not pay the cost of placing the headstone or marker on the grave. We do this for you at no charge.
MEMORIAL CERTIFICATE
The Presidential Memorial Certificate is a parchment certificate with a calligraphic inscription expressing the nation's recognition of the veteran's service. The veteran's name is inscribed and the certificate bears the signature of the President. Certificates are issued in the name of honorably discharged, deceased veterans. Eligible recipients include next of kin, other relatives, and friends. The award of a certificate to one eligible recipient does not preclude certificates to other eligible recipients. The veteran may have died at any time in the past. Taylor Funeral home will apply for certificates for every veteran we service.
BURIAL EXPENSES
There are additional monetary allowances toward burial expenses if the veteran's death occurs in a federal VA hospital or if the veteran was receiving a VA pension at the time of death. Because federal and state guidelines vary depending on some circumstances, we will be glad to offer information on an individual basis. The U.S. Veterans Administration has a very helpful web site http://www.va.gov/ . If the veteran had life insurance coverage with Government National Life Insurance, we can help with that claim or they can be reached at 1-800-669-8477.
